Our clinics are open Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Students visit the clinic if they are feeling unwell, need medication, or have other medical concerns. If a student requires medical assistance outside these hours, they can visit one of the Community Coordinator desks and speak to a Community Coordinator on duty.

Families can check Blackbaud SIS to see if their student has visited the clinic. Please note that the clinic does not issue automatic notifications to families for routine visits.
In the event that a student requires urgent care or emergency room treatment, a family member will be notified immediately via a phone call from the assisting Community Coordinator.
Bringing sick students home - If your student is sick, they need to go home. If they are already at home, please have them stay there until they feel better.
Fever Policy: Any student with a fever of 100.4°F or higher must return home.
Requirements to Return to School:
Must be fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication).
Must be physically well enough to attend and participate in classes.
Medical and counseling transportation - All medical and psychological appointments must be scheduled through the clinic before NCSSM will provide transportation. Transportation to off-campus health care professionals is provided only if the appointment is within the Durham or Morganton city limits.
Dental, orthodontist, vision, and other routine medical appointments - Students should schedule dental, orthodontist, and vision appointments, as well as routine check-ups, etc., when they are home over breaks and extended weekends. We are not able to provide transportation for such appointments.
Handling prescription, over-the-counter medicines - Prescription medications, especially narcotics and controlled medications, must be be turned in to the clinic upon arrival to campus, and the student will visit the clinic to receive the medication. Students may keep over-the-counter medications in their rooms.
Flu shots - In partnership with local pharmacies and UNC Health Blue Ridge, the NCSSM Student Health team organizes flu vaccine clinics for our community each fall. These clinics are hosted multiple times throughout the semester. Please be on the lookout for upcoming details so you can sign your student up!
Medical Absences : To receive an excused medical absence when a student is NOT seen by the campus clinic, proper documentation must be provided. The student and family should:
Submit a Prior Notification of Absence Form: Inform both the attendance officer and the student's instructors by completing the prior notification of absence form.
Create an Academic Plan: Work closely with the instructors to establish a timeline for completing missed coursework.
