Wellness is an ongoing process and a life-long journey, not a one-time event. Student Health, along with many other campus offices, encourages and supports NCSSM students in taking action on all eight interconnected dimensions of wellness in order to build everyday habits, which improve quality of life. It may also help individuals live longer, manage current health conditions, and support recovery from illness, injury, and addiction.
Social Wellness: The ability to successfully interact with people in our world, participating in and feeling connected to the NCSSM community.
Physical Wellness: The functional and operational soundness of the body to include exercise, nutrition and sleep.
Emotional Wellness: An increased self-awareness/self-care, expression and acceptance of a wide range of thoughts and feelings of self and others.
Cultural Wellness: The ability to embrace one’s cultural background, as well as the diversity and richness present in other cultural backgrounds that make NCSSM a stronger community as a whole.
Environmental Wellness: Inspires individuals to live a lifestyle that is respectful of our surroundings. This realm encourages individuals to live in harmony with the Earth by taking action to protect it.
Intellectual Wellness: Engaging the individual in creative and stimulating mental activities to expand their knowledge and skills and help them discover the potential for sharing their gifts with others.
Career Wellness: Engaging in work to gain personal satisfaction and enrichment, consistent with values, goals and lifestyle.
Financial Wellness: The capacity to manage one’s financial resources in such a way as to promote autonomy and security.
